Women Finish Fifth in HVIAC Championships
On Saturday, October 25, the Vaughn College Warriors competed in the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) 2014 Women's Tennis Championships. The HVIAC Women's Tennis Championships consisted of single elimination singles and doubles matches. Each player that got a bye in the tournament earned two points for their team. Each player that won their respective singles or doubles matches earned one point for their team.
Number one single player Maia Rivers (Dix Hills, NY) beat her quarterfinal number one singles opponent to move into the number one singles semi-final round. Rivers' victory helped earn the Warriors a point in the HVIAC Women's Tennis Championships. In the semi-finals she ran into the number one ranked singles opponent from Pratt Institute, Agata Jakubowska. Rivers left everything she had on the court, but came up short of victory to advance to the number one singles championship. Jakubowska would go on to win the number one singles championship.
The Warriors competed in all of their singles and doubles matches, ending the season with a fifth place finish in the HVIAC 2014 women's tennis championships. With another completed season behind them, the women's tennis team will look to build upon the success they had this season gearing up for next year.
