Women Duel With Central Penn Knights at Spooky Nook Sports Center

The Vaughn College women's basketball team faced the Central Penn Knights on Saturday, January 28, at the Spooky Nook Sports Center. Despite the long travel, the Lady Warriors got off to a fast start offensively and defensively. At the end of the first quarter, the Lady Warriors had a six point advantage. They held the Knights to 28.6% shooting from the field and forced them to turn the ball over eight times in the opening period.

Vaughn College would expand their lead in the second quarter and go up by as many as nine points. Youth and experience would hurt the Lady Warriors however. The women's basketball team allowed the Central Penn Knights to get back into the game with careless play on both sides of the ball.

Heading into the break the Lady Warriors trailed the Knights by two points. That defect would increase to 10 points in the third quarter before the Lady Warriors mounted another tough comeback.

The Lady Warriors would outscore the Central Penn Knights in the fourth quarter, but it would not be enough as the women's basketball team would go on to lose to Central Penn by a final score of 52-46.

Maia Rivers (Dix Hills, NY) led the way for Vaughn College. Rivers recorded her fourth double-double of the season. She finished with a game high 19 points, 12 rebounds and six steals. Kayla Bryant (Bronx, NY) did not start the game due to illness. Bryant chipped in 9 points and pulled down eight rebounds in limited action. Nicole White scored eight points, grabbed eight rebounds and recorded three steals. Gabrielle Robinson (New York, NY) and Crystal Ferguson (Queens Village, NY) added five points a piece.

The Lady Warriors have another tough outing ahead of them on Tuesday, January 31. They will travel to Pennsylvania to take on the University of Valley Forge Christian.
