Lady Warriors Comeback not enough against Berkeley Knights

The Vaughn College women's basketball team squared off against the Berkeley College (NY) Knights on Wednesday, January 25. This was the Lady Warriors third Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) contest of the season.

Both teams did a great job competing for the entire game. At the end of the first quarter the Lady Warriors trailed the Knights by 12 points. Maia Rivers (Dix Hills, NY) and Kayla Bryant combined for 18 points in the second quarter to bring the Lady Warriors within seven points of the lead at half time.

The Lady Warriors continued to put pressure on the Knights in the third quarter to cut the deficit to two points. However the Berkeley Knights would go on a little offensive run on their own in the third quarter to ward off a resilient Lady Warriors team.

The game seemed out of reach for the Lady Warriors heading into the final period as they trailed the Knights by 16 points. There was no quit in the Vaughn College women's basketball team as they climbed their way back into the game once again. However, the Knights made key plays down the stretch to secure a tough victory over the Lady Warriors.

The loss drops the Lady Warriors record to 1-2 in the HVIAC. Rivers finished with a game high 27 points. She stuffed the box score with seven rebounds, three assists, four steals, and two blocks. Bryant poured in 18 points, pulled down five rebounds and dished out two assists. Gabrielle Robinson (New York, NY) and Nicole White (St. Pauls, NC) added four points a piece.
