Men Defeat Cannoneers To Pick Up First Win

The Warriors returned to the tennis courts on Thursday, April 18, to face the Cannoneers from Pratt Institute. The men's tennis team got off to a stong start winning two out of their three doubles matches. Veterans Michael Panico (Ronkonkoma, NY) and Raphael Cordina (Nice, France) defeated their number 2 doubles opponents. Panico and Cordino have won four out of five doubles matches they have been paired together in this season. Sebastian Valencia (Quito, Ecuador) and Andrew Yambo (Bronx, NY) defeated their number three doubles opponents to help give the Warriors a 2-1 lead over the Cannoneers heading into singles play.

The Warriors nearly gave the momentum back to the Cannoneers during singles play. The men's tennis team fell behind in the match 3-2 after losing their number one and number two singles matches. Cordina picked up a huge victory over his number three singles opponent, wining by a final score of 10-6, to even the points total for the Warriors against a tough Cannoneer team. Ousmane Thioune (Senegal, Africa) picked up his first singles win on the season by defeating his number four singles opponent 10-7. Amon Spencer (Olean, NY) and Valencia both picked up wins for the Warriors against their singles opponents to help the Warriors secure a 6-3 over the Cannoneers.

The triumph gives the Warriors their first win of the season. They have now defeated the Cannoneers in the last two out of three match-ups.
