Manhattan, N.Y. -- The Warriors men's soccer team returned to action on Saturday, October 2, after all sports were suspended from competition at Vaughn College due to the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020-21. The Warriors hosted Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) opponent Word of Life Bible/Davis (WOL) at Randall's Island. The Huskies from WOL entered the match having played seven previous games (3-4) with a 1-1 record in the HVIAC.
The Warriors showed their rust and inexperience early on in the game. WOL got out to a one goal lead in the first half and looked to have complete control. Freshman forward John Ulusoy (Astoria, NY) tied the game at 1-1 right before the end of the first half. Adolf Yeboa (Bronx, NY) was credited with the assist.
The second half became a game of attrition. Both teams played extremely hard but had limited substitutes available. The Warriors fell behind to the Huskies 2-1 and trailed for most of the second half. Ulusoy would come through again for the Warriors. He scored his second collegiate goal on a beautiful assist from Albert Forero (New Rochelle, NY) to tie the game at 2-2.
The game would end in a 2-2 tie as the Warriors survived their first game in over a year against a rising WOL Huskies team.
