Vaughn Drops First Home Game of 2025 to Great Bay C.C.

Queens, NY – The Vaughn College Phoenix faced a tough home loss against Great Bay Community College, 113-82, in a game that saw Vaughn struggle with shooting and defense. Despite some strong individual performances, the Phoenix could not keep up with Great Bay's high-scoring offense, which outpaced Vaughn in both halves.

How It Happened:
Vaughn entered the game with high hopes, but after a brief first-half lead they found themselves trailing at half-time. Despite a strong push in the second half, Great Bay's powerful offense proved too much. Vaughn struggled defensively, allowing 61 points in the first half and finding themselves down by 23 points at the break, 61-38.

In the beginning of the first half, Vaughn's 3-point shooting kept them close. Nathaniel Edwards was a bright spot for the Phoenix, scoring 33 points, including six three-pointers. Cedric Green and Seth Roselle also contributed offensively, with Green adding 13 points and Roselle chipping in 16. However, Vaughn's shooting troubles continued into the second half, and they were unable to close the gap.

On the other side, Great Bay came out firing on all cylinders. Theodore Wolfe had an outstanding game, putting up 35 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. He was supported by Ethan Arnold, who added 11 points off the bench, and Keith Landry, who contributed 6 points and 3 rebounds. Great Bay shot an impressive 56% from the field (49-87) and 48% from three-point range (13-27), making it difficult for the Phoenix to mount any defensive stops.

Key Performances:

Nathaniel Edwards led the charge for Vaughn, finishing with a game-high 33 points and 7 rebounds. He picked up his shooting in the second half by connecting on 4 of his 6 three-pointers.

Seth Roselle also had a solid performance, contributing 16 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists.

Key Contributors:

Cedric Green added 13 points, 5 rebounds, and played solid minutes for Vaughn, while Joshua Waithe chipped in 9 points and 4 rebounds.

Team Stats:

Vaughn shot 40% from the field (29-73) and 44% from three-point range (12-27), but their shooting struggles in the second half and inability to contain Great Bay's offense proved costly. They did hit 71% of their free throws (12-17), but Great Bay's 56% field goal shooting (49-87) and 48% from three-point range (13-27) were too much for the Phoenix to handle. Vaughn was out-rebounded 42-36, with Great Bay taking advantage on the glass.

Defensively, Vaughn forced 9 turnovers and grabbed 4 steals, but they were unable to slow down Great Bay's high-powered attack, which kept the Phoenix on the defensive for most of the game.

Next Up:
Vaughn will look to bounce back on January 26th against Touro College, aiming to recover from this tough loss and continue their push for the remainder of the season.
