Warriors Get Swamped At Home Against Villa Maria Vikings

CORONA, N.Y. - The Vaughn College men's basketball team returned to competition after having a long three-week break on Sunday, January 22. The Warriors opened up the second half of their season hosting the Villa Maria College (VMC) Knights. This was the first ever meeting between the two institutions. The Knights are a new addition to the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC).

The Warriors showed their rust early on. They struggled to convert on easy opportunities in the first-half. At the break the Warriors found themselves in a deep hole. Despite the score disparity the Warriors competed well in the second half. Unfortunately the Warriors were never able to close the gap to make it a close game. They would go on to fall to the VMC Knights by a huge margin.

Ean Chambers (Ewing Township, NJ) was a bright spot for the Warriors. He finished with a team-high 14 points paired with 1 assist and three steals.

"We knew that we would have a completely different team in the second half of the season. We have multiple players that are out due to various reasons and some players we were unable to retain. The players that we have left to compete with will have different roles. Some guys will be asked to take on more responsibility and other guys will get more opportunity to play in games. Its an unexpected challenge but we will continue to improve." Head Coach Jihad Ceaser.
