Warriors and Patriots Double-Header

Warriors and Patriots Double-Header

On Saturday, April 8, the Vaughn College Warriors baseball team traveled to Phoenixville, PA to play a double-header contest against the University of Valley Forge Christian (UVF) Patriots. Vaughn College lost both games of the double-header to the UVF Patriots in seven innings.

The Warriors' lack of offensive production crippled their defense in the first game. They were only able to generate four hits out of 24 plate appearances.  Patrick Silva Da Cruz (Belleville, NJ) and Hassan Awais (Queens, NY) recorded two hits apiece.

William Gomez (Lawrence, MA) started on the mound in the first game for Vaughn College. Gomez faced 21 batters. He recorded three strike outs,  walked three batters and gave up seven earned runs. Michael Dunn (Centerport, NY) pitched in relief. Dunn faced 17 batters. He had four strike outs, walked three batters and gave up two earned runs. The Warriors dropped the first game of the double-header to the Patriots by a final score of 11-1.

There was an increased level of focus for the Warriors in the second game of the double-header. They scored seven runs off of four hits. Joshua Colome (Bronx, NY) led the way for Vaughn College. Colome recorded two hits and drove in two runs. The Warriors did a better job running the bases in the second game. Jonathan Hernandez (Wantagh, NY) stole two bases, Jessie Rosario (New York, NY) and Colome each stole one base.

The Warriors got out to a fast start scoring four runs in the first two innings. However, the Warriors were unable to stop the Patriots from scoring runs of their own. The Warriors kept the game competitive before falling to the Patriots by a final score of 15-7.

Starling Tavarez (Bronx, NY) was a huge bright spot for the Warriors' baseball team in game two. Tavarez came in the second inning to pitch in relief for  Silva Da Cruz and  finished the game for Vaughn College. He recorded four strike outs in 5 innings.

The Warriors will have some time off to regroup before their next game. They will host the Central Penn Knights on Thursday, April 13, at Randall's Island. The Warriors and Knights will play a nine inning game starting at 3 p.m.
