Warriors Split Season Opener against Valley Forge Christian

PHOENIXVILLE, P.A. - On Saturday, April 19, the Warriors played a double-header contest against Valley Forge Christian. This was the first game for the Warriors this season. 

In game one of the double-header, the Warriors came back from a seven run deficit to defeat Valley Forge Christian, 13-10, in seven innings. Captain Kevin Mendez (Wantagh, NY) pitched a complete game en-route to the Warriors' first win in program history. Francisco Candelario (Bronx, NY) led the team with three hits, two runs scored and three runs batted in (rbi). Jonathan Hernandez (Wantagh, NY) and Michael Dunn (Centerport, NY) played pivitol roles in the Warriors' heroic rally. Hernandez finished the game with two hits, two runs scored and three run's batted in (rbi). Dunn stole one base, recorded two hits, and scored two runs.

The second game of the double-header went into extra innings before a winner was declared. The Warriors let a five run advantage slip at the bottom of the seventh inning and would go on to fall to Valley Forge Christian 10-9 in the eighth inning. Kevin Mendez (Wantagh, NY) socred four runs in the game for the Warriors. Kelvin Medina (Bronx, NY) recorded two hits and had one stolen base. Francisco Candelario (Bronx, NY) finished the game with four hits, three runs scored and two runs batted in (rbi).
