Warriors Go Down 18-5 to the Borough of Manhattan Community College

QUEENS, N.Y. – The men's baseball team put up five runs in a loss against the Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) Panthers. The Panthers scored seven runs in the first inning and six runs in the second inning to take a commanding 13-0 lead. Warrior's pitcher Kevin Mendez (Wantagh, NY) settled down after the second inning, holding the Panthers scoreless in the third, fourth, and fifth innings. Mendez pitched the entire game for the Warriors. He threw 132 pitches, 88 of which were strikes, and recorded five strike-outs.

Freshmen center fielder Anthony Antonitis (Harvey's Lake, PA) drove in the first run of the season with an RBI double to left center field, bringing Mendez home. Mendez scored two runs in the game and also stole two bases. Tyriq Reddick (Uniondale, NY) had his best game of the season, stealing two bases, recording one hit, driving in one run, and scoring one run. Pedro Ortiz (Brooklyn, NY) finished the game with one hit and one scored run.

The Warriors scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning as they saw their deficit decrease, down 5-13 to the Panthers at the end of the inning. However, the Panthers put the game away in the sixth inning tacking on three more runs to increase their lead to 18-5 over the Warriors. The Warriors failed to score any more runs in the game, losing by a final score of 5-18 to the Panthers in six innings.

The Warriors will participate in an Army Veterans' exhibition game that will be played at Padavan Preller Fields on Sunday April 27, 2014 at 12 p.m.
