Men’s Recruiting Showcase

Men’s Recruiting Showcase

ASTORIA, N.Y. – The Vaughn College athletic department hosted a men's basketball recruiting showcase Saturday, March 22 from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The showcase was held at Elmcor Recreational Center. The showcase was constructed for prospective student- athletes who were interested in coming to Vaughn College. All prospects were required to sign in at the Warriors Athletics table and fill out injury waivers before they could participate in the showcase. An athletic trainer was on staff to treat any participants with pre-existing injuries and to assist anyone that suffered an injury during the showcase.  Water coolers and Gatorade bottles were provided to keep the athletes hydrated.

Thirty-six potential basketball recruits took the court to showcase their athletic abilities and individual talents. The Warriors coaching staff; Rick McCollum, Nicole Conley, Omari Wright, and Jihad Ceaser, were all in attendance assessing each prospect. Prospective student-athletes were put through various dynamic stretch routines which transitioned into sprinting conditioning exercises.  Then they competed in individual fundamental drills, basketball team drills, and full-court basketball drills. After prospects completed the morning basketball stations, reversible jerseys were handed out. Prospects were randomly split up into teams so they could scrimmage against one another in live game action. The top prospects in the recruiting showcase were given the opportunity to scrimmage against the current Warriors men's basketball team.

After the recruit showcase, the prospective student athletes were introduced to the Director of Admissions David Griffey. He spoke to the prospective students about the different academic majors Vaughn College had to offer. Everyone filled out interest cards so that can be added to the Vaughn College prospective student data base.

With the huge turnout and success of the men's basketball recruiting showcase, the Warriors athletic department will be hosting a women's recruiting showcase in early May.
