Rivers Named Female Athlete of the Year

Vaughn College hosted its annual Honors Convocation on Wednesday, May 13.  During the ceremony Vaughn College students are honored with the most prestigious academic and athletic awards the institution offers.  Maia Rivers (Dix Hills, NY) entered her freshmen year at Vaughn College being a highly decorated student. She finished off her first year as a freshman pulling in impressive statistics on and off the court. Rivers competed on all three women's varsity teams at Vaughn College during her freshman year. She was the top runner on the women's cross country team, also competed at the number one singles and doubles positions for the women's tennis team, and was even a 19 points per game scorer for the women's basketball team. In 2015, Rivers became the first female athlete at Vaughn College to receive Rookie of the Year honors from the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC). Her professionalism in the classroom and during competition is well beyond her years. For that very reason, Rivers was named the 2014-15 Female Athlete of the Year.
