Three Players Get the Nod for HVIAC All-Conference Team

Vaughn College had three basketball players selected to the 2014-2015 Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) All-Conference Team. Warriors backcourt mates Rashad Luckett (Chicago, IL) and Michael Pena (Dumont, NJ) represented the men's basketball team. Both players were selected to the HVIAC All-Conference team last season. Cianna Peterson (Detroit, MI) was the lone representative for the women's basketball team.

Rashad Luckett had a down year statistically, but his contribution to the Warriors success this season was felt in many categories. Luckett was the third leading scorer on the Warriors averaging over 10 points per contest. He finished top three in the HVIAC in steals per game. His ability to get into the lane to create for himself or for his teammates put a lot of pressure on opposing defenses. Regardless of what the numbers say on paper, Luckett has a reputation around the conference in being able to score in bunches with a different array of shots.

Michael Pena ended his sophomore campaign with a 40 point performance in the Warriors tough loss in the HVIAC semi-finals.  He connected on nine three pointers in the game tying a Vaughn College school record set by Cianna Peterson a month ago. Pena's ability to stretch the defense with his three point accuracy is second to none in the conference. He finished one three pointer behind St. Joseph's College guard Matt O'Neill for most three pointers made in the HVIAC this season. Pena has been asked to play many different roles this season for the Warriors and has thrived in all of them.

Cianna Peterson was a nightmare for every team in the HVIAC. The junior guard led the conference in scoring. She finished the 2014-2015 season averaging just over 25 points per game, and nearly eight rebounds per contest. Peterson scored in double figures in every outing despite multiple defenders guarding her at a time. She received Player of the Week honors for both the HVIAC and the United States College Athletic Association (USCAA). Peterson's highlight of the season came in a win over USCAA opponent, Davis College. She scored 48 points and hit nine three pointers, setting new school records for most points scored in a single game and most three pointers made in a game.
