Maia Rivers Wins HVIAC Co-Rookie of the Year Award

The Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (HVIAC) handed out all post-season awards after the conference playoffs were over. Vaughn College freshman guard Maia Rivers (Dix Hills, NY) was awarded Co-Rookie of the Year by the HVIAC. Rivers shares the prestigious award with St. Joseph's College freshman Destiny Marino. This is the first time in the Warriors women's basketball program that an athlete has been honored as the best rookie player in the conference.

Rivers has had an outstanding freshman campaign. In conference play she averaged 19.5 points per game, just over seven rebounds per game, and a little over three steals per contest. Rivers has started every game for the Warriors this season and has scored double figures in every outing. She has nine games scoring 20 or more points, and three double-doubles on the season. In a conference win over King's College Rivers set a new school record for most steals in a single game, finishing with 11.
