Ceaser And Jastillana Named Male And Female Athlete Of The Year

These awards are given to one male and one female student-athlete who has displayed extraordinary athletic talent in their college career during the past academic year.  The recipients' work ethic and commitment to excellence has allowed them to maintain a high level of team spirit and competitive play.

This year's Male Athlete of the Year, Jihad Ceaser, has led Vaughn to four straight playoff appearances, and is the all-time leading scorer for the Warrior basketball program.  This individual's ability has propelled him to new heights, while accomplishing many team and individual goals.  This award winner was the captain of the men's basketball team for the second year in a row,  and was named to the Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference All-Conference Team.  He was also selected HVMAC Player of the Week twice, while being second on the team in scoring and rebounding.

Only a freshman, this year's Female Athlete of the Year, Mellisa Jastillana, is a member of the women's cross country, women's tennis, and women's basketball teams.  She was ranked the number two singles player on the tennis team and a starting guard on the basketball team, in which she led the team in scoring, minutes per game, and rebounding.  In addition, she was named to the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference All-Conference Team in basketball.
