Basketball Team Sets New Records For Vaughn

During a recent February 2 men's and women's double header at Cooper Union, the women's team had their highest scoring game of the season with 41 points in a 45-41 loss.  In addition, two players received distinctions from the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC) for the week of February 5.

Mellisa Jastillana was named the women's basketball honor roll rookie of the week.  Jastillana recorded the first double-double in Vaughn's history posting 12 points and 13 rebounds in a losing effort to St. Joseph's. The sophomore guard followed it up with a stat-filled sheet recording 12 points, seven rebounds, four steals, four assists, and two blocks in a losing effort against Cooper Union.

Rochelle Brown received the honor roll player of the week for women's basketball. Brown drained four three-pointers against St. Joseph's en route to a 14-point effort and followed it up by setting a new Vaughn record with 19 points, connecting on 5-of-12 from three-point land and adding five rebounds, three steals and two assists. The number of 3 point field goals and the number of points scored in a game represent new records for Vaughn's women's basketball.
