McLean Scores 1000th Career Point In Final Conference Game

Junior captain Kemarlie McLean (Brooklyn, NY) has been a solid player for the Vaughn Warriors since his freshman season. McLean has shouldered a lot of the offensive responsibility for a rebuilding Vaughn Warriors team. He was selected to the Men's Basketball All-Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) Team in each of his first two college seasons. McLean has been recognized as one of the top shooters from the three-point line and top scorers in the HVIAC.

On Saturday, February 8, the Vaughn College Warriors hosted the SUNY ESF Oaks at Aviator Sports Center in Brooklyn, NY. This was the final conference game for the Warriors who needed a huge victory to keep their playoff hopes alive.

The Warriors have had trouble all season getting off to slow offensive starts and falling behind their opponents early in the first half. At the break the Warriors trailed the Oaks 45-35. McLean only scored two points in the first half. The intensity increased in the second half as both teams competed hard with a playoff berth in the HVIAC post-season tournament at stake. Despite the Warriors' efforts to get back into the game, the Oaks were able to withstand any run the Warriors made. The Warriors would lose the game 84-74. The loss eliminated the Warriors from post-season play.

McLean entered the game needing eight points to score his 1000th collegaite point in a Vaughn Warriors uniform. McLean reached the incredible milestone in the second half. The game was stopped to acknowledge the Brooklyn native. McLean became the third person in Vaughn College to score 1000 points. He is the second person in program history to score all 1000 points at Vaughn College. He is also the second person in program history to reach the 1000 point milestone in his junior season.

McLean ended the game with 15 points, eight rebounds and a pair of steals. His back-court teammate Marcus Heron (Yonkers, NY) and Louis Roche (Carteret, NJ) finished with 24 points and 14 points respectively.

The Warriors will face Pratt Institute in their final game of the 2019-20 season.
