Johnson Hits Solo Blast in Warriors Double-Header against Penn State Hazleton

DRIFTON, P.A. – The men's baseball team traveled to Pennsylvania to take on the Penn State Hazelton Lions in a double-header contest on Thursday, April 16. Both teams entered the game looking for their first wins of the season. The Warriors had a 0-3 record before the start of Thursday's double header and the Lions had a 0-6 record.

Frederick Thomas (Brooklyn, NY) started on the mound for the Warriors in game one. Thomas would last four innings, giving up six hits and seven earned runs. Paolo Adraga (Lidenhurst, NY) came in for relief to finish out the game. Mikhail Rodriguez (Jamaica, NY) was hot man for the Warriors in game one. Rodriguez recorded two hits, drove in two runs, and scored one run. The Warriors recorded a season high five hits and had three runs batted in (RBI's). However, the Warriors' late offense was not enough to propel them to victory as they dropped the first game of the double-header by a final score of 14-4 in five innings.

Dashawn Johnson (Astoria, NY) gave the Warriors life in the second game after an impressive 345 foot solo blast in the top of the third inning. Johnson's homerun was the first homerun for the Warriors on the season.  Vaughn faced an eight run deficit in the top of the fifth inning. The Warriors had the bases loaded with two outs and a golden opportunity to get back into the game.Unfortunately the Warriors were unable to capitalize. They would go on to drop the second game of the double-header by a final score of 2-12 in six innings.

The men's baseball team will be back in action on Monday, April 20, when they scrimmage Division I opponent St. Francis College (Brooklyn) at Padavan-Preller Fields. The scrimmage is scheduled to go nine innings, starting at 5 p.m.
