Warriors Fall 0-2 in Season Opener against CSI

STATEN ISLAND, NY- The Vaughn College Warriors men's baseball team traveled to Tomas D. Morales Field Sunday morning, April 6, 2014, to face the College of Staten Island Dolphins for a double-header contest. This was the Warriors first game of the season. Due to inclement weather conditions, the Warriors have had several games postponed or cancelled. Anxious to finally take the field in live game action, the Warriors sent Adrian Zamora (Brooklyn, NY) to the mound to open up the season. Zamora did not make it out of the first inning due to a slight muscle strain in his pitching shoulder. Mikhail Rodriguez (Jamaica, NY) came in to relieve Zamora and close out the inning.

The Dolphins jumped on top of the Warriors scoring seven runs in the first inning and never looked back. The Dolphins took advantage of the Warriors' multiple fielding errors en route to a 24-0 victory in the first game of the double-header. Ramon Marte (Corona, NY) and Zamora were the only Warriors to record hits and reach base in the first game.

Gensi Beltre (Bronx, NY) started on the mound for the Warriors in game two of the double-header. Beltre lasted three innings in the game before handing the ball over to Frederick Thomas (Brooklyn, NY). Thomas closed out the game giving up only three runs in the final three innings. The Warriors reached base three times on a walk from Rodriguez and hits by Marte and Pedro Ortiz (Brooklyn, NY). The Dolphins won the second game of the double-header 20-0.

The Warriors look to bounce back from their performance when they take on King's College Wednesday, April 9, 2014. The game will be played at Juniper Valley Park with a 5p.m. start.
