Warrior's Defeat King's College

ASTORIA, N.Y. - The Warriors men's baseball team proved to be unmatched by the Lions of King's College. The men's baseball team started their inaugural season as a club sport this spring. The team did not show any weakness in their abilities as they conquered King's College 18-6 in their first game ever. The Warriors came ready to play, their offense led by catcher Mike Jensen. Jensen hit an outstanding 3 for 4 with two RBIs and was able to get on base all four times that he came to the plate.  Jensen wasn't the only Warrior to put up great numbers, as second baseman Luiny Duran hit an incredible batting average of .500 going 2 for 4 and adding two RBIs. The Warriors did an astounding job, scoring 18 runs over six innings. The team scored in every inning except the third.

The pitching for the Warriors was just as stellar as the offense.  Kevin Mendez started for the Warriors in their season debut.  Mendez gave up four hits over three innings and fanned two batters with great control over the strike zone.  Mikhail Rodriguez came in relief for Mendez and only gave up one hit in over two innings of action.  The closer for the Warriors, Gensi Beltre did a terrific job keeping the King's College from scoring additional runs. Mixing between his fastball and curveball, Beltre had the King's players guessing at pitches and finished with a strong outing. The game was called in the 6th inning due to the Warriors domination. The Athletic Department is excited to have baseball as a varsity sport next year, as they feel it is a leap forward for the department.
