Lady Warriors Victorious In Home Opener

The Vaughn College women's basketball team defeated Webb Institute handily in their home opener on Thursday, November 7. The Lady Warriors held a 15 point lead at the end of the first quarter and they never looked back. Everyone contributed to a great team win in front of the home crowd at Elmcor Recreation Center. 

Freshman guard Edwina Wright (New Orleans, LA) finished with a double-double with 29 points and 12 steals. Wright became the first player in program history to record a double-double in the points and steals categories. She also dished out a team high eight assists and grabbed seven rebounds. Zuleika Briceno (Bronx, NY) filled the box score with eight points, seven rebounds, five steals and three assists. Joleen Gomez (Bridgeport, CT) tallied seven points and pulled down nine rebounds. Tahisha Jocelyn (Elmont, NY) contributed six points and grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds. Alexa Cruz (Pompton Lakes, NJ) chipped in two points and 10 rebounds. Jazmin Garcia added three points, two steals and one assist.

The women will be on the road for their next two games in Boston Massachusetts. They will face Bristol CC on Saturday, November 9, and Bunker Hill Community College on Sunday, November 10.
