Senior Night

Senior Night

The Vaughn College Warriors hosted the Panthers from Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (ACPHS) on Saturday, February 9. Before the game the Vaughn College athletics department honored senior forward Christina DeLuca (Massapequa, NY). DeLuca has participated on the women's basketball team for the past two seasons. She has been extremely serviceable and reliable while competing for the Warriors. DeLuca also competes on the women's tennis team at Vaughn College. Her tennis team has been to two consecutive Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) championship matches finishing as the runner-ups both times (2017, 2018).

The Warriors got out to a slow start offensively against the Panthers and found themselves in a deep hole after the end of the first quarter. Despite trailing by a large deficit the Warriors competed hard to get back in the game. Foul trouble and injuries would hurt the already depleted Warriors in their comeback efforts. They would go on to lose to the Panthers on Senior Night.

Marceisha Howard (Fort Worth, TX) had another strong performance for the Warriors. The junior captain recorded her second straight double-double and led her team in points (23), rebounds (13) and steals (4). Junior co-captain Xylene Decoteau (Queens, NY) had a career night in the loss. Decoteau scored a career-high 16 points on 7-11 shooting from the field. DeLuca recorded 5 rebounds and dished out one assist in her last home game in a Warrior uniform.

The women's basketball team will travel to the College of New Rochelle to play their final game of the regular season. The game will be played on Wednesday, February 13.
