Warriors Come Up Short Against Five Towns

The Vaughn College women's basketball team hosted the Five Towns College Sound on Friday, January 18, at Elmcor Recreation Center. The two teams squared off against one another in the first half the season where the Warriors suffered a huge loss to the Sound on the road. The second match-up turned out to be a high intense competitive game. The Warriors fell behind the Sound early in the game but mounted an amazing comeback led by junior guard Marceisha Howard (Fort Worth, TX)  Unfortunately time would run out on the Warriors. The Sound escaped with a narrow six point win (61-55) in the rematch between both teams.

The Warriors received contributions from multiple players. Howard recorded her fourth double-double of her career in the loss. She finished with 27 points, 14 rebounds, six assists and four steals. Alexa Cruz (Pompton Lakes, NJ) had her best game of her freshman campaign. Cruz scored 14 points and grabbed five rebounds. Jazmin Garcia  (Yonkers, NY) chipped in seven points. Zuleika Briceno (Bronx, NY) added four points, seven rebounds, 3 assists and three steals. Xylene Decoteau (Queens, NY) tallied three points and 10 rebounds.

The loss still has the Warriors searching for their first win of the season, but the young women's basketball team is getting better each game. The women will be back in action against Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) opponent Davis College on Friday, February 1.
