Women Win Second Straight Game

Women Win Second Straight Game

The Vaughn College women's basketball won their second game in a row against non-conference opponent Sarah Lawrence on Saturday, December 2. The Lady Warriors trailed for most of the game and had a difficult time matching the effort and energy from the Gryphons. It took a special performance from senior captain Maia Rivers (Dix Hills, NY) for the Lady Warriors to escape with a 62-61 victory.

Rivers had one of the greatest individual performances in program history. She finished the game with a career-high 34 points and a season-high 14 rebounds. Rivers scored 14 of her 34 points in the fourth quarter with her team down in the game. She connected on 4-5 three-pointers in the fourth quarter and willed the Lady Warriors to victory.

Nicole White (St. Pauls, NC) had a solid game for Vaughn College. White scored 15 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. White hit a big three-pointer from the right corner to give the Lady Warriors their first lead in the game with six minutes left to play. Emily Betances (Queens, NY) added 10 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals.

The win improves the women's basketball team's record to 2-1. The Lady Warriors will continue their non-conference schedule on Tuesday, December 5, when they travel to Middlesex Community College to play the Lady Colts.
