Sekkat's Game Winning Goal Secures Warriors' Playoff Birth On Senior Night

Senior Captain Azzeddine Sekkat (Astoria, NY) scored the game winning goal on senior night against the Five Towns College Sound on Thursday, October 17. The Warriors trailed the Sound 1-0 in the second half in a pivotal Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) match. Sophomore defender Kevin Moreira (Brooklyn, NY) scored his seventh goal of the season to even the game at 1-1 in the 62 minute. 

Both teams entered the game understanding the significance of what a a win would mean to each team fighting to make the HVIAC post-season tournament. The Warriors needed a win to secure a playoff birth for the first time since the 2015 season. A win for the Sound would keep their chances alive of making the playoffs in their inaugural HVIAC season. 

The game was extremely physical and intense in the final 30 minutes of the second half. Both teams competed valiantly. Sekkat scored his third goal of the season in the 88 minute. His goal gave the Warriors a 2-1 victory over the Sound. 

The win propelled the Warriors into the final playoff spot for the upcoming HVIAC post-season tournament. The men's soccer team's final game will be against SUNY ESF on Saturday, October 19.
