Moreira Scores Hat-Trick In Warriors Second Conference Win

The Vaughn College Warriors picked up their second win in the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) on Sunday, October 6 against the Culinary Institute of America (CIA) Steels. The men's soccer team entered the HVIAC match on a three-game slide hoping to get back in the win column. For the second game in a row the Warriors got out to a fast start in the game. Freshman forward Matthew Crespo (Flushing, NY) made his first start of the season and scored the games first goal. Crespo's shot from 25 yards out deflected off of teammate Kevin Quintero Rojas (College Point, NY) and a Steels defender to give the Warriors and early 1-0 advatage. The Steels responded in the 22nd minute to bring the game even at 1-1.

The Warriors would make changes to their line-up at halftime moving defender Kevin Moreira (Brooklyn, NY) to the midfield to provide the Warriors with an additional scoring punch. Moreira tallied three goals in the second half giving the sophmore captain his first career hat-trick. Moreira's three goals and one assist performance helped the Warriors to secure their second win in the HVIAC as they make a push for the 2019 HVIAC conference postseason tournament.

Ahkeem Bailey (Brooklyn, NY) also found the back of the net in the 5-2 Warriors triumph over the CIA Steels. Bailey finished the game with one goal and two assists.

The win improves the Warriors overall record to 2-3 on the year and 2-2 in the HVIAC. The Warriors now sit in fourth place in the HVIAC and hold the last playoff spot to make it into the HVIAC postseason tournament.
