Warriors Late Push Not Enough against Bengals

QUEENS, N.Y. - The Vaughn College Warriors hosted the University of Maine Fort Kent Bengals on Friday, January 30. The Bengals had a 14 point lead at half time. That lead would grow to as many as 20 points in the second half, but the Warriors remained calm and resilient. Vaughn College picked up their defensive intensity using variations of full court and half court pressure. The Warriors caused the Benglas to turn the ball over 15 times in the game, scoring off of 50 percent of the Bengal's miscues. Unfortunately for the Warriors, they would run out of time as they fell to the Bengals by a final score of 95-86.

The Warriors had three players score 20 or more points in the game. Sergio Mejia (New York, NY) poured in a team high 24 points, pulled down four rebounds, and had six thefts in the game. Ian Parker (Yonkers, NY) added 22 points, five rebounds, and four assists. Maleec Taylor (Rockville Centre, NY) filled up the box score with 20 points, five rebounds, five assists, and three steals.

The loss drops the Warriors' record to 12-4 on the year. The men's basketball team will have several days off before their next game on Sunday, February 7. They will host Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) opponent SUNY College of Environmental Sciences and Forestry (SUNY ESF).
