Men's Basketball Continue to Thrive

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - The men's basketball team squared off against United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Division II opponent Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) on Sunday, December 13. The Warriors got out to a slow start and found themselves trailing to SMCC by seven points early in the first half. The Warriors would pick up their defensive intensity, forcing SMCC to turn the ball over and create easy scoring opportunities. At the half time break Vaughn College held a 50-29 lead over SMCC.

The lead would balloon to as much as 25 points in the second for the Warriors, but SMCC would not go down quietly. SMCC would get as close as 11 points away from the lead until junior guard Michael Pena (Dumont, NJ) took over the game for Vaughn College. Pena, who had a good first half production wise, erupted offensively in the second half. He finished with a game high 31 points. The Warriors would go on to defeat SMCC by a final score of 84-65.

The win improves the Warriors record to 6-1 on the season. The men's basketball team will play one more game before the Christmas break against Touro College. The game is scheduled to be played on Monday, December 21.
