Warriors Fall Short to Golden Eagles

LONG ISLAND, N.Y. – The Vaughn College Warriors took on the Golden Eagles of St. Joseph's College Long Island at the Danzi Center on Monday, December 8.  It was a tight game from the tip-off. The Warriors would take an early lead in the first half, but empty offensive possessions and careless fouls allowed the Golden Eagles to take control of the game. Despite forcing 24 turnovers, the Warriors fell to the Golden Eagles 67-56. The Golden Eagles outscored the Warriors in both halves and won the battle on the boards, out-rebounding the Warriors by 11.

The Warriors cut an 11 point deficit to two points with 10 minutes to play in the game. Unfortunately for the Warriors, the Golden Eagles came up with huge plays down the stretch to maintain their lead. With the game on the line, the Golden Eagles were able to come up with loose balls and offensive rebounds to close out the game.

There are some positives that the Warriors can take away from this game. The Warriors had more bench points than the Golden Eagles and fewer turnovers in the game. They shot just over 70 percent from the foul line, an area in which the Warriors have struggled from in recent games.

Rashad Luckett (Chicago, IL) and Sergio Mejia (New York, NY) both scored double figures in the game. Luckett registered 12 points, collected three steals, dished out two assists, and pulled down a couple of rebounds in 28 minutes of action. Mejia finished the game with 11 points and three rebounds. Maleec Taylor (Rockville Centre, NY) chipped in eight points and led the Warriors in rebounds with seven.

The Warriors will travel to Massachusetts to take on Fisher College on Saturday, December 13. The game will tip-off at 3 p.m.
