Vaughn College Hosts First Ever Midnight Madness at Elmcor Recreation Facility

ASTORIA, N.Y.– Thursday night the Warriors men's and women's basketball teams, as well as the coaching staff, were introduced to a large crowd of students, faculty, family members, and friends. With both teams kicking off the official start to the college basketball season it was important for the members of each team to be showcased to the supporting community.

Men's basketball head coach Ricky McCollum (Uccon 07')  and women's basketball head coach Nicole Conley (Daniel Webster 09') put together a great organized event that included a smoke tunnel machine, an official DJ playing music throughout the night and free giveaways and prizes for the spectators.

After the Vaughn Warriors dance team performed several choreographed dances, the men's basketball team and select guest athletes put on a show for the crowd in the much anticipated dunk contest. Men's basketball senior forward Jeff Noel (Brooklyn, NY) went head-to-head with Vaughn College all-time leading scorer Jihad Ceaser in the championship round. Ceaser closed out the competition and won the dunk contest after jumping over two members of the women's basketball team.

Both teams showcased their skills as the teams participated in a couple of scrimmages. In the first scrimmage the men's and women's basketball teams were combined and split up evenly. It was a fun but competitive scrimmage as the Warriors basketball teams competed with and against one other.  In the final scrimmage of the night, the men's basketball team competed against a team of past Vaughn Warrior men's basketball players and guest male basketball players. It was a great exhibition game in which the Warriors defeated the "Monstar Select" team.

In the first ever midnight madness for Vaughn athletics, the buzz and excitement was created for what might be record breaking seasons for both the men and women's basketball teams.
