Vicotry Over Pratt At First Men's Basketball Blackout Game

For the first time, Vaughn College held a men's basketball blackout game to increase athletic support for the Vaughn College Warriors.

After coming back from winter break, the Warriors played against rival Pratt on January 16 and won in a commanding 74-33 victory.  Co-captain Jihad Ceasar, the senior forward, had 22 points and five assists.

The first 150 fans that attended the game received a new black Vaughn T-shirt designed just for the game to be worn that night. A spirit team was also assembled for the game and traveled with the team by bus. The spirit team brought the student section alive with loud cheering and enthusiasm as the Warriors went on to win the game. Hot 97 was also in-house to DJ and announce the game.

According to coach Ricky McCollum, "This was the largest fan turnout we've ever had.  The Blackout theme really brought the Vaughn community together in support of the Warriors."

Based on this positive first experience, Vaughn will continue to employ a blackout or whiteout game in the future for all its sports teams and is currently planning on a blackout double-header, men's and women's game next year.
